Got Destroyed!!!

On Monday, all i know was it was red saloon and it was turbocharged... looked Japanese (maybe import Civic Saloon or early Lancer?) but the thing went past me like i wasn't moving... and thats when i was doing fecking 90mph and still accelerating!!
It was dark and pishing down so I was gutted not to know what it was and made no attempt to catch back up with it to find out!!
Any idea of a car that had three-tier rear lights? Trying to think how to describe it but say there were three seperate sections to the rear lense like this:

and the top and bottom were lit up (red lights) I guess the middle row would be indicators, reverse etc
