torques, especially a good thick band of it somewhere towards the bottom, or middle of the rev range, none of this 8000rpm honda vtec gash for me!

to be fair i've never driven a "proper" vtec, just a old 1.5 version and i hated it lol. All my cars have been n/a zetec / duratec engined fords and the peak power starts about 4k on those and your looking to change up about 5.5/6k
