Embarrassing Moment Empty Embarrassing Moment

Post by thanesas Thu Sep 25, 2008 4:57 pm

At the petrol station last night, busy forecourt (cars queuing to get to pumps) and muggins here couldn't get the fuel cap off for love nor money. Five minutes of fighting with it I had to give up and shamefacedly leave the forecourt without having bought petrol Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

It was on the Escort (old runaround) which has an unlockable flap on the exterior of the car with a locking fuel cap hiding behind it. Key went in, took a half turn but felt like it was going to snap in two if i kept trying to force it.

Got it home and eventually worked it free after 20 minutes of constant use of multiple keys and lots of WD40.

Its moving smoothly now, but it shows you that petrol vapour and a sealing cap made of metal and rubber parts doesn't go well together - the cars 10 years old and its the first time its happened so i'll be damned if i'm buying a new cap Laughing
